Forest-play and nature days

Every other friday worldschoolers meet up to play and chat in the forest. We bring a picknick and just have some fun! We do excursions in the nature not only for play but to learn about biology. We have a nature-journal where we note down what we have learned. We visit an apiary farm, do bird watching, visit farms, learn about animals and plants or just meet up in the park.

Meet-ups

There are no organised other meet-ups but you are welcome to suggest something. We always welcome new worldschoolers and new local homeschoolers.

Museum visits and excursions

We do trips and museum visits once in a while depending on demand. As the other activities I organise on Prague worldschooling its entirely free. You just pay your own costs. As a group we often get discounts and can arrange special tours. Nothing is planned for this autumn but I would like to and would need an extra hand from a czech speaker organising it.

IMPORTANT - You need commit to activities at least a day before and for some you will need to sign up for.

Trial arts and animation class

I have in cooperation with Luis Cerdas, a professional artist from Costa Rica that has worked with teaching children there, arranged a trial for an arts class on next Monday (14th) at 1030 in  A Maze in Tchaiovna near Hradcanska. It is easy to find - see the map on the link.

This is a wonderful opportunity to take part of an arts class especially designed for us unschooling families in Prague. The teacher is sort of unschooled himself so he understands what our kids are about and will put together a special programme for those that will join. The classes will be in blocks of 4 weeks. It is a family class - which means - be part of it! The cost will depend on how many that join, however it will be within a homeschoolers normal budget.

The central idea is to stimulate imagination and see what the collective interests are. We will work a lot with colours and with our surroundings (for instance we will not always be inside, we can also work with materials like leafs that we find in the park also. We will work with animation also, and make small figures in different materials. If we are many, classes will be held in the arts studio, and there will be access to a ceramic burner too.

Classes will be taught in english (also czech and spanish if your kids speak that). Its not suitable for under 4. I will need to know in advance - latest on saturday - which ones of you will be coming - so please let me know asap. You sign up by writing an email to us on the blog or on our facebook page (please let us know your email adress)

Here is an inspirational video by Luis - please watch it (starts about 30 seconds in)

Sign up for a family yoga trial lesson

I have in cooperation with Lovely joga arranged for a free trial for family yoga on wednesday 16th at 1015 (dont be late - you need 15 mins to wind down when you get there!).

This is a wonderful opportunity to take part of family yoga that is especially designed for worldschoolers. Its suitable from 3 and up. My husband went last week with our 4 year old and has left a positive review (which is good because he is not the yoga type at all).

We have about 5 families that signed up so far. We would have space for one or two more for the trial if you want to come - then I need to know latest tomorrow.

Here is some info from Lovely Joga:

I hope that you and your boys are both healthy and happy, its yet another very cold day in Prague but at least that sun is shining ðŸ˜Š

I am writing to you as promised about the Family Yoga class that will be starting next week. I am going to go through all the details to confirm and even re confrim things ðŸ˜Šthats how I roll!

Family Yoga- Wednesday 16th November- Start/ Finish time 10:30- 11:30 (please arrive at least 15mins earlier, I will be at the studio from 10)-
Location- JOGA LETNA-  Dobrovského 666/20, 170 00 Praha 7-HoleÅ¡ovice
http://www.jogaletna.cz/
Feel free to change clothes (lockers at the studio are provided)
Mats and other equipment are provided by me/ and the studio ðŸ˜Š

After some thought about the price for the class I decided that I wanted to offer some fair discount, in an effort to support Home Schooling ðŸ˜Š Usually my classes are 190 per child per hour- therefore I have done some clever maths and decided that it makes more sense to ask for the following-

One Child/ One Adult- 300 czk (with any additional child and/or adult its 50czk) per class.
(Children under 2 come for free) ♥ But I need to be informed if a baby is joining us so that I can prepare a safe space. ♥

I hope that everything reads clear for you. And please can you email me the contacts of all the families that have confirmed so that I can send them a welcome email. ðŸ˜Š

If you have any questions please ask- And I will write to Helenka from Joga Letna today to book the space for next Wednesday (and for the 4 weeks that follow) ðŸ˜Š

I am looking forward.

Do you want to be in our homeschooling swimming group?

I am putting together as a regular activity - swimming - once a week - for fun. some nice company and to learn to swim (and improve swimming) and a little exercise of course.

I have my eyes on the pool they are renovating in Holesovice. Will open on the 15th.

And this one - that looks fun with slides etc. Will open on the 28th sept.

Contact me if you want to be part of this.

Programming for kids - with Scratch and Codecademy

So its been a long summer with plenty of roadtrips for us and not a lot of structure and regular activities. Now we will stay put here for a while so we can start up regular activities again. One of our favourite is programming. We will do it in our house or in the bitcoin-cafe Paralelni Polis depending on how many we are.

We are no experts - but we have the right tools to learn the programming from Scratch - that is why we use Scratch. We help each other out and inspire each other. Its nice.

I hope more of you will come!

So - Wednesdays at 10. About 1,5 h. Bring your own laptop. In Holesovice - near Delnicka. Its good for kids from about 4 and up. Message me here or on the facebook page if you want to "sign up".

Boys and guns and bombs and chewbacca. Well, this is what they like.

Kiddum - a Lego-school in Prague

Yesterday we visited the lego-school Kiddum to see what kind of a place it was. It is a school that offers courses in Lego for toddlers up to teens (and for parents who want to help build robots!). This is not just about the play - the school follows a special lego curriculum with materials from Lego, where some is not available to buy in shops. Children learn Czech with the help of lego in their course "Lego czech". Henry was very fond of Duplo technics - which we havent seen before. It is about the same as normal technics but the pieces are so big so you focus more on the mechanics because it is faster and easier to build with.

Duplo technics and lego curriculum.

On Kiddum you just wont only play with Lego because it's fun, the learning goes a lot deeper than that. It focuses on problem solving and where to apply the mechanics and structures and see similarities between the way insects are moving and how a Technics insect would move. Here you learn programming with Scratch so that you can tell what the robots what to do. Someone here had built an insect robot!

In the classroom for smaller children the duplo lego is sorted neatly in boxes - with their curriculum.

There is a playroom as well where children can play for fun for 150 cz hour for a pair of siblings.

Kiddum is very homeschooling friendly. There is already a class here for some homeschoolers and they are flexible in arranging custom programs - I asked about a class focused on duplo technics and robot-building in English and they can do that. If you want to join or find out more about this you can send me a message on the message form on the right hand side.

Winston and I built our own kind of homemade robotic thing but without the motor when we got home. We really wished we had not had left our Lego scattered in three countries and lost all the instructions we had! But anyway, we will soon gather it and hopefully be able to build without instructions when we have taken some classes in the Lego school.
